Social Media Intern
The Aegis Council for Policy Research & Innovation is an international non-profit organization focusing on Canada and African countries. We seek to engage and promote innovative ideas to strengthen Canada’s foreign impact, and relations with partner African countries.
We seek to achieve this through rigorous analysis, present alternative policy ideas, and connect governments, businesses and communities to information they desperately need to make decisions.
We are looking for a creative and organized social media strategist to manage our content development across all digital and social media channels for Aegis Council to reach a wider audience and achieve maximum impact.
The position is an important bridge to future employment allowing the successful candidate to develop and hone their professional, skills training and career development in a highly competitive global environment.
The internship is available for a period of 5 months on a full/part time basis and is unpaid. The selected applicant will work in a dynamic team as well as on their own on assigned tasks that builds their management skills.
Job Summary
The incumbent will be in charge of planning, developing, implementing, evaluating and maintaining an active and engaging online presence for Aegis Council and its activities.
The Intern creates and develops content for and maintains daily activities across all social media platforms. The successful candidate will monitor, engage with and grow an online community interested in international development, global governance, Canadian foreign diplomacy and politics. The position of Social Media Intern supports the overall corporate strategic direction and contributes to the general marketing and media aspirations of the corporation.
The Social Media Intern has strong creation skills to support the imperative of online marketing, communications and educational engagement with Aegis Council’s digital audience by generating and sharing daily contents. The intern will continuously enhance our social media presence by capturing, analysing and acting on appropriate data, insights, trends and practices, and respond to community questions and feedback in a timely fashion.
The successful candidate will be responsible for cultivating and nurturing relations
Qualifications
Pursuing, or recently completed post-secondary education in a field related to the duties of the position including communications, journalism, marketing or an equivalent field and work experience.
Competencies
- Ability to write short and compelling copy for a variety of audiences on a range of social media channels.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of current social media landscape, trends and tools (scheduling, monitoring, engagement)
- Knowledgeable and production skills including new media-related components such as video capture, editing, lighting, recording and posting on digital channels and SEO
- Working experience of Microsoft Office Suite, social media analytics on diverse platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn)
- Experience in public relations, marketing and community engagement.
- Knowledgeable communicator with excellent writing, editing and presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
Work Environment
The incumbent will work remotely and may occasionally be required to go the office when there is the need to do so.
